DAVID PALMER
Contemporary American Painter – Where Pop Meets Poetry
Exclusively exhibited at the Ariel Jakob Gallery
Born in Syracuse, New York, and based in Los Angeles, David Palmer is a contemporary American painter whose work fuses the bold iconography of Pop Art with the layered textures of classical frescoes. His paintings are inspired by dreams, childhood memories, nature, and contemporary culture, resulting in a unique visual language that resonates with both nostalgia and modernity.
Palmer's artistic journey includes a Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He has been recognized with a MacDowell Colony Fellowship, an Artist's Grant from the Ludwig Vogelstein Foundation, and a residency at the 18th Street Arts Center in Santa Monica. Beyond the canvas, he has contributed digital effects to over a dozen feature films, including The Polar Express, Spider-Man 3, and the first Harry Potter movie.
His paintings often feature distressed surfaces that reveal patches of underlying color, reminiscent of aging frescoes and peeling billboards. This technique adds depth and history to his subjects, which range from astronauts and animals to everyday objects, all imbued with a sense of wonder and introspection.
The Ariel Jakob Gallery is proud to present David Palmer's work exclusively, showcasing his ability to bridge the gap between classical art traditions and contemporary pop culture. His paintings invite viewers to explore the interplay between the familiar and the fantastical, the personal and the universal.
